PREFACE TO THE HOLLEY FAMILY TREE BOOK

 

I have aspired to attain a comprehensive collection of family genealogical records laced with history, newspaper articles, obituaries, and family stories that have been told for generations.  In any attempt to undertake such a goal there are so many, whom without their help, cooperation and assistance this would not have been possible.  May I say thank you to those who have contributed.

 

Information for this book comes from every available source I could think of, including other researchers family trees, court and probate records, deeds, wills, military records, cemetery records, newspaper articles, history books, internet records, social security records, family reunions, correspondence by computer with other researchers, a group of researchers whose families in someway touch the Holley Lineage, other Holley families through out the country and personal interviews with family members.  All the while trying my best to make sure that information that is furnished meets certain standards of correctness and is free of errors.  However, you can see, that countless hours of work has went into this years edition with additional volumes of information compiled.  So in this mountain of paper work that has been sifted through there is going to be mistakes but we ask for your help in finding them so we can correct them in any next edition.  Credits have been given in some cases, but not in most, simply because some have expressed that they did not want their names mentioned as sources.  If anyone sees any article, story, etc. that they feel like credit is due, let me know and corrections or changes will be made in future revisions (if any) to reflect that. Plans are to revise this book in May of each year, since it is a work in progress.

 

As I begun to work on my own family tree, Cassady, I soon found myself adding my wife’s family unknowing to me that I was fixing to fall in love with a family whose history, accomplishments, stories would have made a movie, equal if not better than Gone With The Wind, had it only been told.  This book will fall short of telling that story due to my own inadequacy.  Maybe with this book and the works of others one day the Holley Story can be told.   “Descendants of these and other lines of the Holley Family in America have spread to all parts of the country.  These descendants have aided in the growth and development of our nation as their ancestors did in founding of the settlement in America,” wrote Verna Holley Phillips, in her book, The Holley Tree, A Family History, 1990.

 

A trade off of time away from my family and other responsibilities has been the price to pay for my pursuit of this book on genealogy.  It is with much love and caring that I attempt to tell the story of our family.  With God’s blessings  and your help I will continue.
